Dholera Activation Area Development
The 22.54 sq. km Activation Area is the first major development phase of Dholera SIR. It includes industrial, residential, commercial and public use zones supported by planned roads and utility infrastructure.
Underground systems for power, water, recycled water, drainage, sewerage and ICT form part of Dholera's planned smart city infrastructure. The Activation Area is also becoming the centre for new industrial and social infrastructure development.
Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway Status
The approximately 109 km Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway (NE-8) was inaugurated on 31st March 2026.
It significantly improves road connectivity between Ahmedabad and Dholera SIR and supports movement toward the industrial region and upcoming airport.
The expressway is one of the most important completed connectivity projects supporting Dholera's development.
Dholera International Airport Current Status
Dholera International Airport remains under development. During the July 2026 official review, around 80% of the overall construction was reported complete. The runway, taxiway and ATC related infrastructure were reported complete, while terminal construction was still progressing.
The government announced a target of making the airport operational around September-October 2026, subject to completion of remaining works and required approvals.
The airport is expected to support both passenger and cargo connectivity for Dholera's industrial ecosystem.
Tata Semiconductor Plant in Dholera
Tata Electronics is establishing India's first major commercial semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera with an investment of over ₹91,000 crore and planned production capacity of approximately 50,000 wafer starts per month.
The work has crossed 50% completion and is progressing steadily on track. A semiconductor supplier ecosystem and vendor infrastructure are also developing around the project.
Ahmedabad-Dholera Railway Project
The government has approved the Sarkhej-Dholera semi-high-speed double railway line, covering approximately 134 km in May 2026.
The planned corridor will connect Ahmedabad with Dholera SIR, Dholera International Airport and Lothal. The project is targeted for completion by 2030-31.
Healthcare and Education Infrastructure
Dholera's development is now expanding beyond industrial infrastructure. A multi-specialty healthcare facility is being developed within the Activation Area, with plans for emergency care, outpatient services, surgery and other medical facilities.
A school from Nursery to Class XII is also planned as part of the city's education infrastructure. These facilities are important for supporting employees and families as residential activity increases.
Housing, Hospitality and Daily Amenities
Residential and commercial development is gradually expanding alongside industrial growth. Dholera's urban infrastructure pipeline also includes:
